I said good-bye to my little friend Silk today.

Although he is small and quiet in his small home, he always brought a big smile to my face each morning when I would feed him. When I entered the room, he would immediately swim up to the glass where I would cup my hand trying to connect to his energy. This became a ritual with him pressing his body against the glass as if he was hugging me, choosing to do this rather than eat the food I sprinkled into his bowl. I was amazed by this show of affection and looked forward to it every day. A small pleasure that helped me to begin the day positively.

I am so glad that he has gone to a trusted friend because I love the little guy and his well being was very important to me. I can rest easy knowing he is in good hands (A big thank you!!). He has been like a ray of sunshine in my living room. It’s pretty cool to watch him as he swims in his bowl, his fins moving so gracefully, like a silk scarf floating in the water (hence the name Silk). He seems to really enjoy his waterfall often swimming right into it so that it pushes him down and off to the side. This somehow makes me think of a roller coaster ride and I wonder if he gets the same rush as a person gets from the sudden drop. He must enjoy the ride I suppose or he would not do it. It makes me smile to watch him entertain himself in this way.

I have enjoyed his company for over 3 years now, the longest time I have had a beta.  (I didn’t know they lived that long actually). I hope he brings the same joy and good enterment to my friend who has taken over his care.
