We met Carlos in Ecuador because we stopped in for a meal at his restaurant Taco Bello. We went back often as we enjoyed the meals he created. Carlos left his home in Mexico, heading into the United States, when he was 12 years old. For myself I could not even imagine having the courage or determination it took for a twelve year old to make this choice. And I challenge anyone reading this to remember yourself at that age, or look at your child today who may be around this age, to see yourself in his shoes. What separates North America (in general) from South America, is the lack of desperation, the lack of hope faced each day for a better life.
North Americans complain about the high cost of what comes from impoverished countries, yet who among you is willing to work for $10.00/day as you expect from those who insure these items get to you? It is our selfishness and greed which contributes to the desperation forcing the migrants to land on our doorstep. When we can finally understand how our choices affect the lives of those less fortunate, then we will find the answers to stop the need for migration.
He eventually did make a good life for himself, but at what cost I wonder?

Although he would not tell me his story, I could see the trauma in his eyes – so much sadness and pain. We became friends right away as we understood each others stories even though they was very little shared of them. He was not a criminal, just a boy with big dreams and hopes and why shouldn’t he have those?  No he was not a criminal, but I knew there were some who should have been jailed for what they had done to him. If you have not felt it, you cannot imagine how it feels to carry the stigma of hate and judgement simply for being born in a different country, have a different color of skin or have different beliefs. Or in my case be born to my parents, in particular my father.

This is a very sad day for the underprivileged, the have-nots, those who are viewed as criminals simply because of their country of origin or their religious beliefs, their culture. Today a monster is brought back to the White House, a man who knows nothing of the world the majority of the citizens he’s to govern experience. Yet he claims he will make America great again……..but for who? People really should stop repeating this slogan as if it has value for the whole! Months ago I wrote about this, wondering if this slogan included Canada or if we were going to be forced to take a knee as we joined the US. Turns out my thoughts were right on track as the mouthpiece with the hairpiece jokes about making this country the 51st state.

Those who support him should be forced to be present while the mass deportations occur, witness first hand as I did when I was torn from my family, just what it means to give power to such an inhumane act. It would be my hope the scenes you would witness would haunt you for the rest of your life. And don’t fly or drive, walk as these migrants did, sacrificing so much to do so in the effort of making a better life. I believe these migrants do have the right to come into North America, because after all North American interests have been the cause of much of the impoverished situations in Central and South America.

So afraid of losing what you have, you’re willing to accept without any proof, allegations made against many innocent human beings, allowing you to remain comfortable in your bubble. So when you can no longer find or afford products you’ve become accustomed to enjoying, look in the mirror for the cause. You will be staring the reason in the face! Then you will begin to understand what it means to be under the thumb of a dictator.

I repeat – Make America great again for who?
