Man-grizzly Vision August 25, 1995
After I woke this morning I closed my eyes, relaxing in the moment before the day began. I saw a yellow light and in that light I saw the face of a grizzly bear. The face then changed into an Indian Warrior who was holding a shield in his hands high above his head, facing the sun as it rose in the sky. Then it changed again to the grizzly face, then the whole animal, then back to the warrior. Finally the face of the grizzly with the face of the warrior transposed overtop.
This was really such a wonderful experience and because I was working on my drawing of the grizzly at the time this felt like an inner connection to that image. I would later come to believe my drawings were a process of reclaiming the shards of my spirit, making them quite personal and dear to me.
When the image was almost finished my second oldest son, Colby, who was watching me draw made the comment, “I can see a face in your bear.” I kind of laughed thinking he was teasing me because after all it was a face, but he said, “No, Mom, I can see a human face in the bear.”
I have tried many times to see this human face and sometimes I almost think I can, but it still alludes me. Nonetheless, the image I saw while I lay there that morning suggests perhaps the warriors face is there, visible at least to my son. I wonder, can you see it?
I am putting the image in this post as well so you don’t have to jump back and forth. Let me know if you seen the face of the man in the bear……
