Gift of Joy May 20, 2009

This was pretty cool, at least the end of the dream which was really the only part that stood out. One needs to understand hummingbirds are relatively rare in the northern climate of Calgary, Canada. I do not remember seeing one while growing up living in Calgary. It was not until we moved to the country that I remember have visits from this little bundle of joy.

Once again I was at the house on Chalice Road. This time my children were with me and it was like we were living there. I was at the back of the house, and actually in the house, suggesting we did live there. The children were smaller and so much of the dream is mixed up in my head I cannot remember the sequence of events.
I found myself in the back alley with Josh, my eldest son, and we were taking out the recycling. Suddenly I said, “Stop, listen, that’s a hummingbird!” I slowly turned around so I was facing the house and saw the hummingbird fly towards us. It flew right up to my face, coming closer and closer until it touched my forehead with it’s beak. I can’t say for sure now, but I believe I this was when I woke up.

It was a pretty cool sensation to feel its beak on my forehead on the third eye. I could not help but wonder, given the timing of this dream, that it was somehow related to my dream about my father as well as the thoughts I had the other day about that dream. It seemed to be acknowledging the truth of these moments and the joy emanating from them. Hummingbirds represent joy in the shaman world. In Ecuador, shamans are said to take the form of the hummingbird at death.
Once again I find it interesting this would happen at the house where I grew up, giving me a new perspective on my future. Taking everything which was negative from that house and replacing it with positive and happy possibilities. Very grateful!!
