Complement
While at work this morning, I was given such a nice compliment that I have to put it in writing so I can look back and remember. This is how one person, at least, sees me.
My first customers of the day were a table of three; a couple from out of town who were joined shortly thereafter by a long time friend. They stayed for a long while after they had finished their meal, seeing me interact many other customers during a busy lunch hour. Although I did not realize it at the time, they were apparently focusing their attention to me.
Walking past their table to get something, one of the ladies called me over. I asked what I could get for her and she just shook her head and said, “I have to tell you that you have such a gentle spirit, and are a terrific waitress. You really have a gift and are using it wisely.”
I could feel the tears sting my eyes as I said thank you. I told them I don’t think anyone has ever paid me such a high compliment, although I have received many over the years. For some reason this comment really touched me. As I write it now I believe it is because of her words gentle spirit, which after all the awful situations I have been through, somehow intact, still shines through.
