Raptor’s Dance dream July 26, 1997

In this dream I was on a road driving through a small town. I could see some birds high in the sky and as I drove downhill around the corner that took me out of town I pulled over. I have always loved watching birds, especially raptors as they soar and then pull in their wings and dive, then stretch out their wings to soar again, catching an endless breeze.

There were three or four pairs performing what I would consider a mating dance. At first I thought they were all hawks, but as they flew closer I could see that two of them were robins. It was amazing to watch as they hooked their talons together, one facing upwards and the other down. They flowed in unison as they changed direction remaining conjoined as they did. They would hover for a few seconds, separate and then join again. The exactness of their timed movement was so beautiful to watch.
I was distracted by movement and my attention was drawn to a snowy owl resting on a fence post on a nearby hillside. It was just sitting there watching me, which was something because it was daytime, and owls do tend to be more nocturnal. The dream ended with this image.
