The Dance
My love for dance has followed me throughout my life, always giving me happiness and joy. While I was in ballet dancing meant freedom, removing walls of confinement I normally lived behind. Stifled as I was in every other aspect of my childhood, dance allowed me to escape into another world, one of happiness and colour. Despite the hard work, challenging my body to push just a little farther to gain the strength I needed, I never tired of it.
The dancer in this image represents that feeling for me in a way I cannot describe. The flow of her dress, the rich colour and the look of contentment on her face says more than I could ever say in words.
When you have been dancing for a few years and your body is toned from intensive training, becoming more challenging with every year you advance, it becomes addicting to feel your body being able to move with great ease. There is nothing quite like this combination of control and relaxation that comes from training the body to have such flexibility. It is very easy to understand the dancers inability to let go of the addiction despite the aging process reminding you are no longer sixteen.
