The kittens are getting more active, their eyes have opened and aren’t they adorable????

They don’t like to be disturbed yet though preferring the warm comfort of their bed all tangled together. Still so tiny, but getting curious about the outside world when mama leaves. Where does mama go when she leaves us??

Unfortunately there is sad news about the goslings, with only one remaining. I did not see what happened to the second one, but I will assume it had something to do with a rat. The three adults hover closely over the last baby now and who could blame them. I check on it every day, wishing it would grow faster so it could defend itself if needed. But nature goes its own way. And so far this one is getting through each day.
We went for a walk last night, it was after six, so already dark. We went down a road I have never been on which takes you to the river, and that would eventually take you to the falls. It would be a perfect place to walk, as its a quiet country road that made me feel like I was in B.C. And it was an absolute perfect evening temperature wise for a nice walk. But……
Walking with Mali at any time of day here is a bit frustrating as everyone has at least one dog on their property. Mali seems to attract every dog in the neighbourhood as she walks by (I wonder do they know she is from canada?) barking and causing quite a disturbance. Poor girl has to run in circles to protect her virtue at times, but for us it is the incessant barking which really hurts the ears. What a cacophony!!!!! It is so peaceful when you get past them and they finally stop barking.
Mali was quite frightened by all these crazy dogs when we first started taking her for walks here, but she has learned to defend herself a bit and mostly she gets through the crowds unharmed now. She always has a few following her though sometimes for blocks before they finally give up and head back home. Mostly she ignores them, but sometimes she seems to make a friend, but the walk is the most important thing in her world. She loves her walks!!!!
We got to the end of the road and I thought I saw a light above the grass, but it was just a flash, so I believed I was just seeing things. But no, a few minutes later Patrick says to me “look there are fireflies here”. And indeed there were, little flashes of lights everywhere, how wonderful. It never occurred to me that I would see fireflies here, can’t imagine why not. I have not seen them since living in B.C. So this was a real treat, a beautiful gift of nature!!
We effectively got ourselves lost after that, which was a little bit unsettling because every turn to find the way, seemed to get us into a new area that we didn’t recognize. It was kind of funny, but it’s pretty dark on some of these streets and we completely lost our direction. So our short walk turned into a rather lengthy one, but we saw new things and had a little adventure.
We stopped to ask for help, which is not easy because no one speaks English and our Spanish is limited at best. So after a few laughs, a bit of frustration and many smiles and good cheer, we did get pointed in the direction of Agato. This surprised us because we thought we were already in Agato, but no we had found ourselves in a completely different village lol. Crazy us!!! Well when in doubt follow the bus, that’s what we did and then indeed we got to the sign saying Agato 👉🏻this way and we were back on track. In the end it was a lovely walk, no harm done, but I suggested we one day we should just hop on a bus and ride around on it to see where it goes. I am amazed at how much there is to explore around here, most of which we never see because we have our route taking us to the places we need to go.
Once the book is done, we will have to get out more and see what is in our backyard.
