A Moment in Time
My youngest son went to India a few years back with the idea of staying, traveling, and exploring. His plans did not work out quite the way he hoped, but he did have a wonderful adventure for the month he was there.
On one of his excursions he had the opportunity to ride an elephant and was amazed at the connection he felt with this great animal in the short time he spent in its presence. He sent me a picture of him resting his forehead on the elephants head. Captured in that moment was a look of such peace not only in my son, but also in the elephant. Overwhelmed by feeling from looking at this photo, it was as though I was there, sharing this amazing moment with them both. It is obvious they connected on some level and I was pleased he had received so great a gift.
For some life does not provide many opportunities of restful peace where we are able to just feel the moment and be content. I am speaking of riding the roller coaster of emotional events which seem to have no end, jumping from one difficult situation into another. Sometimes choices are not so simple and one does not necessarily seem better than the other. So to see this moment captured in a photo meant more to me than I can easily express in words. I keep it on the wall by my bed….it is the last thing I see at the end of each day, there to remind life is intended to be beautiful.
I have discovered some of the shards I am drawing back to heal my spirit are connected to my children and their experiences. We all are connected to our children in a way that cannot be destroyed, no matter what the circumstance. In painting this image of my son and attempting to capture this moment in time I felt so much love for him, for who he is, whether we are on the same page or not. Though we lost our connection on one level he will always be an integral part of my reason to be here. Whether he can feel it or not there is an invisible thread connecting us, and always will.
There are many moments in time I have held on to just like this, stitched together like threads in a blanket. They have kept me thinking positive and putting a smile on my face each day. It is a beautiful tapestry made with love, and the one thing I can bring with me wherever I go.
