A song begins with just one note, followed by another and another until they are all joined in a string giving pleasure to it’s audience. One step leads to another and another becoming the dance of love; the tango. One brush stroke, followed by another and another can lead to a masterpiece, or just personal fulfillment. One moment of clarity can lead to one new idea, followed by another until we have written ourselves into a new chapter of our lives. One chance given to someone who would otherwise fall into despair, can lead to success, an unexpected result for their troubled mind.
Watching the movie “Sea Biscuit” brought this home to me in a big way. I had forgotten much of the story, seeing it many years ago. The beauty of one man’s kindness, his patience and ability to accept the path he was one with grace and dignity was an inspiration for me. That he would not give up on one young man lost in the misery of his troubled life, made this such a beautiful story. As well the horse did not give up on it’s rider, nor the rider on his horse as they found themselves with similar fate, struggling to achieve the most important goal – belief in one’s self. Their bond absolute, their love undeniable as they found their way through the maze of their traumatic lives.
I recognized the pattern, knowing both Mali and I suffered much in our early life, our dependence on each other providing support as well. The shaman confirmed this when I was in his company after doing Ayahuasca. He said Mali too was traumatized, suffering her own version of PTSD, making her as dependent on me as I was on her. People here do not understand the unmistakable value of their dogs, viewing them as an alarm system, a necessary addition to their family, but not one which needs to be loved. Anyone who watches Mali and the way she interacts with me, is amazed as they see something special in our connection. Love guarantees loyalty in an animal, something which it seems is difficult for some to understand. All the dogs living here now protect me, not the property or the family looking after it. They sleep close to my room, alerting me to any disturbance, protecting the family only by default. It is me they are loyal to, the desire to be included in my day shines in their eyes whenever I look at them. I am the only one they follow off the property, the only one they ask for affection from – they know I love and respect them. But I see the others trying now to win Mali’s affection, hopeful I think to find the connection. One thought, leading to another and another, allowing a new perspective on an old idea.
This is the first “FlashMob” video I saw which lead to another and then another, giving me the idea of sharing such a great idea. No borders, no boundaries, just people enjoying five minutes in a space you would not expect to see them. Suddenly shopping is not the focus as everyone is either participating or watching, enjoyment clear on their faces. I absolutely loved the idea and it continues to give me pleasure, smiling at the unique display of intimacy in a crowded shopping centre. It simply yells at us to enjoy the moment, let go of your plans for five minutes to step out of your ordered day. The sun breaks through on a cloudy day and you enjoy the warmth of as you take first one step, then another into spontaneity. A beautiful concept.
It seems to be a music day, following a difficult but also fulfilling beginning to the week. So I introduce “contemporary jazz” with Ken Navarro and Basia, two of my favorite artists in this genre. My idea of jazz was the sound of musicians rehearsing, the notes not really having rhythm, just going out to beyond and forgetting to come back. That style of jazz is still difficult for me to appreciate, although I fully comprehend the talent and skill of the musicians. But this style of jazz is very enjoyable first introduced in my dance classes. One new song lead to another and another, until my collection grew to include the world and its many possibilities.
