Yesterday
or maybe it was 2 days ago ICE took a 5 year old into custody, put him in detention. Everyday the terrible things that are justified in the US trigger me, reminding me of all I faced as a child.
I was 2 years old when they took me and the couple whose care I was in, to the camp where we all suffered greatly. The couple who raised me, were brutally killed in front of me – their crime was to help my father by taking me in, my crime was to be born.
I can tell you how frightening it is to be taken from your home without explanation at gunpoint – taken from a loving safe environment and placed in hell, surrounded by overwhelming fear, sickness and hopelessness from so many also taken from their safe places.
Something Inside you just knows even at such a young age that you will never be the same for the rest of your life, that the wound from this experience will not heal properly. Any who know me today can still see the consequences of what happened when my childhood memories surface inconveniently, triggered by a time when my world turned upside down and everything of true value was taken from me.
We are watching what happens under a dictator, this abuse of power will continue to escalate because no one stopped it when it was still preventable. They become emboldened everyday, enjoying what they perceive as the power of their destruction growing into irreversible hate in their belly.
People like me saw what was coming because we’ve already lived through it. I talked about this happening the day that buffoon took power and yet it’s too unbelievable still for so many to accept this truth they are watching. Still there are those supporting these crimes against humanity as though it is legal and necessary to make America great again. The truth is it is destroying the country and everything it once stood for, everything so many gave their life protecting.
But we’re watching it in real time. When a government and its goon squads justify the acts of a woman getting shot in the face because she is trying to turn her car around and leave peacefully, or when a child can be used as bait and then taken away to one of the most scary places imaginable, you know you’ve arrived in Hell. You think Maduro is bad, and he is, he’s a dictator, but the T-man is so much worse because he has no heart, no conscience, no empathy or integrity.
Those who support this, support the government and the big man in charge who is allowing this to happen, will carry the weight of it from this life to the next. You are as guilty as he is for accepting the lies and deceit which gives them the power to be so brutal simply because they can. Your naivety and ignorance cannot be used as an excuse for protecting and enabling this insanity.
This government protects the criminals while sending children and working innocent adults trying to make a better life for their families to detention centres. This government is everything they claim to be fighting against.
This…… what’s happening in the US to the immigrants……is what those people risked so much to escape from in their own countries. This is everything my father fought against. He gave his life in sacrifice to prevent this cruelty from happening anywhere else.
But it’s here, it has spread to the one place no one thought it could happen. But I knew. I understood how it was a growing entity, this greed and hunger for power and everything I hoped I would never see happen again, is.
