Vision of Grizzly Protection September 19, 2000

We were still camping in bear country in the wilds of B.C. and during my moon time I was always a little concerned. On this particular night as my moon time began I was a bit nervous going to sleep. We were alone in the wilderness, no one around for miles.
I was sleeping and at one point woke up believing I heard a bear close by. I got myself scared thinking of the possibilities, but didn’t want to wake anyone else without good reason. I lay still on my back, willing myself to stay calm and breathe steady and slow. While I was listening for any indication I needed to be worried, I must have fallen asleep. Rather than having a dream, I consider what happened next a vision.
I heard a large bear approach the tent door from the East. It walked around sun- wise, passed the back of the tent by my head and made its way to the side where I was laying. I was trying to call Patrick, but couldn’t find my voice, nor could I move my body to let him know about the bear now lying down beside me.
It pushed its nose into the side of the tent against me and there it stayed. I was scared and trying to move or call out, unable to do either. At last I managed to lift my arm which felt like a lead pipe, landing on Patrick and scratching the top of the sleeping bag. I was still not able to speak as he was waking up. At this point I really did awaken, bolting to a sitting position. There was not a bear beside me, but the whole thing felt so real I expected to find the bear’s nose pushing against the tent.

Now I was awake it was obvious I was never in danger. I understood it was Grandma Grizzly’s spirit which had come to visit me, letting me know she was with me, protecting me and my family. How grateful I was to feel her love and kindness, something I had known very little. I now understood I had nothing to fear on this journey. We were protected.
