It was a Tom Sawyer Moment…..

This was the scene when I went to have my meal one day. I looked up and saw this magical moment and I just thought to myself – “Isn’t that perfect?”. Abel saw me taking the picture, but for once didn’t move to avoid the camera, rather he just smiled this quirky little smile for me. So often it is just these little things that make everything worthwhile, satisfaction marking the moments of simplicity. I am complete in these moments.

There are times when I am frustrated by how difficult it is to get anything moving here. Plans seem to disintegrate as the time dwindles away. Great ideas which everyone wants to participate in disappear like fog as the sun rises on a summer morning. I feel as though I am completely lost as I struggle to find the right connections, only to watch them disappear. Then I have a moment such as this, leaving me to wonder why it matters, why do I allow worry to get the better of me?. Just enjoy the day, the moment.

Once while on a mission to get ingredients for pizza while here, I was told I walk so fast. “Why do you walk so fast?” he said. How do you explain this to someone who has never seen the pace which North Americans operate. I just explained I had worked in very busy restaurants where moving quickly was vital. It becomes part of your life to move fast, do more, work harder, because everyone is replaceable. Strolling is more the pace here, and something that takes a bit of time to get used to. When you do, it is a welcome pace, allowing you to enjoy what’s around you – yes, you can easily stop to smell the roses.

So this is a simple post, a reminder to us all, relax, you owe it to yourself to have a Tom Sawyer moment…..

Green grass, a bamboo pole and time…….
