When I got this album, “Wednesday Night at Eric’s” came as quite a surprise. – it was a ghost song, not listed on the jacket cover. Expecting a totally different album to start playing, I was confused when I was still hearing Jesse Cook. It was a great discovery…..I played it again, at greater volume:)
This is the second time writing this story, as the saving I did intermittently while working on it failed and the whole story was gone when I went for another video link. I almost threw my iPad out the door…..all the beautiful feelings connected to the story gone as I sit here in frustration. Technology is great when it works…..
So I had to listen to the music posted to get back into the groove, the super healing powers of great music bringing me back to sanity. If I drank, a bottle of good white wine would have done the trick too. In any case I will try to remember what I said, the hours put into the post gone, and the words I thought I saved gone with them. Better put another song on….
I love the way he incorporates music styles from other countries, it adds great flavour to his music…..
Growing up as I did with visits to the Philharmonic, was instrumental for the appreciation of music and the absolute beauty it provides us all. Where would we be without music, it occupies much of our lives, each of us enjoying different genres. In my adult years, living in Creston, British Columbia , I was introduced to jazz, something I did not expect to enjoy, by way of “Basia”. While taking jazz and modern dance, our class listened to many different artists, starting a journey into a wonderful new world of music, that did not include the Top Forty List. This exploration continued in a big way when we moved to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. We frequented the many libraries while living there and this is where I discovered Jesse Cook.
Walking into their music section, gave me the opportunity to pick and choose at no cost, discovering artists from so many countries. I had no idea what I would hear when I got home, and of course several were not to my liking, but in the end, I was fortunate to find so many I did enjoy. Supporting Jesse was a pleasure – going to concerts and buying his albums. Many times over the years I have given thanks to the library for the gift it gave me.
While on my run today, I decided to start putting different selections of music into the posts. As I have often state music has been so beneficial to my healing process. This idea was inspired while standing on the road absorbing my surroundings, understanding the importance of this place, what it has provided me during the last year. The music playing through my headphones as I enjoyed my moment.
Also I had a comment this morning praising the audio files posted the other day (I presume), and this made me think about the artists I have discovered over the years. I have loved sharing my music in the past, often complimented for the diversity, introducing others to music they may not have tried, had they not heard it. So today is the beginning of this sharing, starting with Jesse Cook, who is a Canadian artist, one who has great talent in my mind. I do hope you enjoy his music, there are many albums in his repertoire, so if the ones I have selected are not to your taste, please try some of his other songs. I hope you will enjoy him enough to support him.
I chose Jesse Cook because while on my run, Wednesday Night at Eric’s started playing as I began my last leg, heading home. As always, this song fills me with joy, and gives me a huge boost. I imagine how wonderful it must feel to have his ability, to make magic happen with his guitar, a favorite instrument of mine even though I don’t play. Inspire others, this is what someone’s talents can do, as it brings joy, relaxation or comfort into their day. Music will always be important to me – how fortunate I have been to have it’s notes play throughout my entire life.
There will always be room in my playlist for the top forty of my generation, definetly some great music from that era, so many songs still enjoyed. Since discovering “World Music”, there is something in me which believes that if we can love the music, we can also love the culture who play it. There are no boundaries, no borders when it comes to music, it is simply a pleasure enjoyed worldwide. The cultures add flavour, the different instruments create atmosphere all of which may take time to adjust to, but it is worth it. Enjoy……
